Electricity has been a key part of our society living, and without it, most of our daily activities are disturbed. On the other hand, the source of the electricity it self are not always as abundance as we needed. Hence we need the renewable energy source besides from coal or oil .
Solar cell has been one of the ‘go to’ renewable energy source for the last decade – but it hasn’t been used as much as it is up to a few years ago – where we now can get the mono/poly cells with an economical price as it is now.
How it works
Basically what happens is the solar panels we have will catch the Photons released from the sun – where they will hit the silicon atoms of the solar cells, then they transfer their energy to loose electrons . These loose electron will then need to be herd to become an electric current. The sun light which carries these photons that can be used are different for every hours and areas where the sun shines. Due to this , every part of the globe will have different range of time in where the sun shine is consider effective or not.
Photons from the sun which has been change to electricity can be saved as a battery (DC) or used directly as it has came from the direct power source (AC).
The type and specification of Solar Systems
Off Grid System
This system is common to be used in areas that has no electricity lines at all. The system will require to be completed with batteries in order to still produce electricity when the sun is no longer shining. The amount of solar cells required is based on the electricity needed for one day – the electricity accumulate for one day is design to fulfill the amount of electricity needed to support the system and recharge the battery.
On Grid System
This system us commonly used when electricity from the main line is available – but will be alternately supply the electricity to the grid as the solar system cannot support the grid 24hr/day. With the usage of the export import current meter, if there is any surplus of the electricity produced in daytime – it can be deposited to the main electricity line. The down side of this is, when the main electricity line is down – the system is completely off; even when it is still day time.
Hybrid System
This system us commonly used when electricity from the main line is available – but will be alternately supply the electricity to the grid as the solar system cannot support the grid 24hr/day. Example calculation of the power utilization of the hybrid system
System power load
- For pumps, lights, air conditioners, compressors etc.
- Total power 30 Kw
- Hours of operation 8 hours / day
- Kw power requirement = 30 x 7 hours / day = 210 kwh / day
- Cost PLN (100% power from PLN) = 1.350 USD / kWh x 210 kwh / day x 30 days = 8.505 million USD / month
Solar Powered System
- Total solar system installed 45 KW
- Power production by solar system = 45 kw x 5 hours / day = 225 kwh / day
- Equivalent saving cost: 225 kwh / day x 30 days x 1.350 USD / kWh = 9.1125 million USD / Month
Conclusion
When the system / IPA operates only 7 hours / day (day or night), then there is no electricity fees paid to the PLN for the production of solar power systems> power required.
The system can be equipped with a battery, and is only used when the power of the PLN and the Solar System When at noon, power production solar system> power is needed, the excess power can be delivered to the grid, as measured by KWH meters EXIM, in this case we use the grid as a "power storage" in which power can be used when needed
